Although I have been having a blast, my lack of a blog post is due to the ship’s internet being down for two days. It really makes you stop and realize how dependent we are on being able to have instant communication with friends and family. Not having the internet and the lack of constant inputs is like a peaceful walk on the promenade deck. (see above photo)
It started when arrived to check-in to the cruise ship Noordam at 11:30. The first step was to show our passports and boarding passes then verification of our visas needed for the trip. As we proceeded to the next step, the announcement came “The ship’s internet is down “. After a short wait, they switched to a paper process and we continued the boarding process.
We set about our normal routine of finding our cabin, depositing our carry-ons, and then going to the Lido deck for lunch. We met up with Aj & Jenna where we discussed what the plan was for the rest of the day. Back in our room, we unpacked, amazed at the storage capacity then proceeded to familiarize ourselves with the layout of the ship.
At dinner that night, we were still docked in San Diego. So of course we started to take bets when we would leave. Since it was already past our scheduled 5 p.m. departure time, our guesses ranged from 7 to 9 that evening. At 7:10, we heard the engines start, Steve had won the bet. Soon the lights of the harbor gave way to the darkness of the open sea.
The next day, still no internet — what do I do now? I signed up to learn bridge and flower arranging. Somewhat frustrated because I tend to be “type A”, I walked, caught up on some reading, and finally relaxed.
Then YEAH!!, the internet was restored. This post is just a quick update on events. I will catch up with our last couple of days in San Diego during the next couple of sea days. I am still on a learning curve when it comes to developing a blog. That is especially true for creating one using a cruise ship’s internet.
Thanks for the post! Fun to read.
